About time you have a blog to record such things man! Good on you buddy..... You might want to put other guides on using the Linux. ;)

Thanks for the remarks. This blog is about posting of "rare" and useful technical info, which I believe could benifit others. More to come...

Hi Max,

Greetings from Germany. I've been looking for information on installing MySQL on Solaris 10 and kudos to you. Its an article well written and concise. Excellent work.

I tried to locate the build 24 of MySQL, but landed with 22. Good enough. I followed the instructions step-by-step and it worked!

Thanks a lot. Well done! Well done!!

BTW, the build 22 could be found at:
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/4.1.html#solaris-pgadd

Cheers,
Mithun

Hi
Thanks a lot but I've a problem in the last step which is login by mysql
the message is appearing :
can't connect to local Mysql server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

(I installed on Solaris 10)
Thanks

I had a problem whilst installing the MySQL package, I got the following error:

pkgadd: ERROR: unable to create package object /usr/include/mysql/my_attribute.h.
pathname does not exist
unable to create symbolic link to /opt/mysql/mysql/include/my_attribute.h
[ verifying class none ]
ERROR: attribute verification of /usr/include/mysql/my_attribute.h failed
pathname does not exist
unable to create symbolic link to /opt/mysql/mysql/include/my_attribute.h

can't connect to local Mysql server through socket? Make sure you start the mysql server. If you are using a different user to connect, type 'mysql -u <username> -p'

pkgadd: ERROR: ??? gees, that I really can't help much...

Quick and easy.. no problems
Thank you.

great posting, where I can locate the "my.cnf" file.

very nice. thank you very much.

Hi Al, sorry to the late reply. Good question. You may be able to locate the my.cnf in the /etc folder.

Hi, your page has been really useful. Thanks a lot.

Hi, thanks for the helpful page. It's worth noting that the mysql_install_db script seems to expect to be run with bash, but that's not the default shell in solaris 10.

On my system I had to force the script to run with bash.

Thanks:

ln -s /usr/bin/hostname
/usr/local/bin/hostname

This was required to create hostname.pid when starting the dbase.

cheers!

great info...saved my day, thanks for writing this up

What if I want to stop the server?

Great!!! I found it finally
:D

Keep up the good work
